How is Silicone Leather Made
A solvent-free dry coating process where liquid silicone is precision-coated onto release paper, thermally cured, laminated with fabric substrate, and peeled to reveal the finished leather surface.
Material Compounding
Silicone polymer base is mixed with crosslinking agent, catalyst, and pigments in a vacuum planetary mixer. The solvent-free paste is degassed to eliminate air bubbles, ensuring a flawless coating surface.
Release Paper Coating
The silicone compound is applied onto embossed release paper using a knife-over-roll or reverse-roll coater. The paper imparts the final leather texture while serving as a temporary carrier during curing.
Multi-Zone Thermal Curing
The coated web passes through a multi-zone curing oven with a graduated temperature profile. Heat triggers platinum-catalyzed addition crosslinking, transforming liquid silicone into a solid elastomer film.
Substrate Lamination
While the topcoat is still tacky, a textile substrate (polyester, cotton, or blended fabric) is laminated under controlled pressure and heat. This bonds the silicone layer permanently to the fabric backing.
Cooling, Peeling & Winding
The fully cured composite is cooled on chill rollers, then peeled from the release paper to reveal the textured silicone surface. The finished leather is inspected, trimmed, and wound into standard rolls ready for packaging.
